Townships have always been correlated to mixed-use developments where businesses, residential developments, and commercial centers coexist with each other. There are also some of the successful developments that currently stand today like the ones in Eastwood City in Quezon City and Rockwell Center in Makati. These township developments are changing the way Filipinos live in urban areas as they provide modern conveniences that make them ideal for those who want to take advantage of city life while also having easy access to leisure activities.

Township developments have become increasingly popular among many Filipinos. This is because of the accessibility and opportunity it offers not just to residents, but also to students, and young professionals who want to seize the opportunity. Let’s take ArcoVia City as an example.

A township that is currently under construction by Megaworld Corporation. The development is located along C-5 Road and just a few minutes away from neighboring cities such as Quezon City, Mandaluyong, and Taguig. Expected to be finished in 2029, ArcoVia City is only one of the few up-and-coming master-planned communities in the country.

Arca South for instance is a project by Ayala Land situated a stone’s throw away from the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) and prominent business districts in the Metro namely Bonifacio Global City, Makati Central Business District, and Ortigas Center. One of the reasons why Filipinos are into townships is because everything is within reach from homes, to work, shopping centers, and public spaces. The rise of township developments is a testament of a new age of communities in the country.

Mostly the mixed-used developments are positioned where residents can easily travel from one place to another. Arca South is close to the key landmarks in the Metro such as the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), Metro Manila Skyway, and the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX). This opens up a lot of avenues for potential residents to go for an out-of-town trip, business meetings to a nearby city, or visit another country.

Townships also prioritized green spaces inside the premises. Filinvest City in Muntinlupa is the perfect example of this. The development is surrounded by not 1 and 2 parks, but 3 green spaces close to the residential towers and offices in the premises.

Some of the public spaces in Filinvest City are the following: Filinvest City Trails, Spectrum Linear Park, and Filinvest City Central Park. Parks have always been a vital part of any community. It is where both residents and tourists can chill, relax, unwind and be with nature.

Township developments are now becoming popular that are not only confined to Luzon, they have also started to emerge in other islands of the country such as Visayas and Mindanao. Megaworld’s Iloilo Business Park is currently one of the prominent township developments in the region. This presents another function of townships, they can also generate jobs.

Ayala Center and Greenfield District are a walk away from Makati CBD and Ortigas Center. Both townships are also beside transportation terminals, major roads, and railway networks. Business owners and property investors can see the long-term investments now with upcoming infrastructure projects are underway like the Metro Manila Subway Station, construction of LRT-1 extension that can travel as far as Cavite, and the linking of both North and South Luzon Expressway through the interchanges in Quirino Highway, Regalado, Congressional, and C.P. Garcia Interchanges.

Former President of the People’s Republic of China, Li Keqiang, once conveyed that urbanization involves much more than just augmenting the population of city inhabitants or broadening the geographical expanse of urban areas. It encapsulates a profound transformation from a rural to an urban paradigm. This metamorphosis touches every aspect of society, including the industrial culture, employment landscape, residential environment, and the framework of social security. It’s a comprehensive shift in lifestyle and societal structures.

As more townships continue to rise across the country, we can expect to see further enhancements in the quality of urban living in the Philippines. These developments not only contribute to the local economy but also promote sustainable and balanced urban growth. Indeed, the future of urban living in the Philippines is bright with the rise of township developments.
