Before the rainy season arrives, try to examine the early signs of the leakage. Many times, the rainwater can seep in through thread-like thin cracks. In such cases, an expert’s guidance comes to the rescue. Look out for any mold growth or any signs of wear and tear. If there are any gaps, then repair them as soon as possible using sealants that prevent water and moisture damage.

Taking early precautions can save you from severe leakage problems and even prospects of other structural dangers in the long run.

2.   Clean Your Gutter Downspouts

Clogged gutters can overflow during the rainy season and it can enter your home. It’s not only unhygienic but creates damage to walls, flooring, and even roofs. Therefore, it becomes utmost critical to keep your gutters clean and schedule frequent cleaning. If there are any trees near your home, there are high stakes of debris, twigs, and leaves to accumulate inside the gutter. Hence, keep your lawn clean and clean gutters twice before the monsoon arrives. You can use utility gloves to take out the debris and rinse it with water. Additionally, you can also layer gutter strainers so that they catch all the trash and prevent clogging.

3.   Pest Prevention

When it downpours, it’s very obvious for insects and bugs to enter the home. To get rid of crickets, cockroaches, rats, and other microorganisms, you can use essential oil sprays and stop them from entering. Additionally, you can do pest control pre-rainy season for utmost prevention.

4.   Move Furniture Away From the Rain

Having outdoor furniture brings charm and beauty to the home. It can bear up against heat and cold. But, rain, No, it cannot withstand. Exposing them to the water can stir risks of wear and tear. Moreover, it also develops mold thereby shortening the lifespan.

The easiest way to protect your furniture is by moving it to a secure place, most probably indoors where there is no moisture-free zone. If that does not work then you can opt for protective covers to keep them from getting wet.

5.   Drain Out & Store Away all Containers Filled With Water

Many times during the rainy season, a lot of our containers get filled with water.

While that’s a good sign that you want to save water, it’s not the best way to do it either. The primary reason is that mosquitoes tend to lay eggs in water and if there’s stored water nearby your home or in your lawn then it might bring in diseases like malaria. Therefore, drain out all the stored container water.

Pro-Tip: If you want to save water, then go for a rainwater harvesting method and consult a specialist to take the next steps.

6.   Watch Out For Large Tree Branches

Having huge trees or branches acts as a shade during scorching heat. However, these same large branches, in the event of a storm or strong winds, break or fall onto a house. Other than this, branches can also become a gateway for insects, ants, etc. to enter your home if a branch touches a window or the walls of a house. Therefore, right before the rainy season and summer end, you can trim the branches, which signals potential damage.
